Auguste Lumière: 150th Birthday
Published: 10/2012
French inventor, photographic pioneer, and filmmaker Auguste Lumière was born 150 years ago (19 October 1862). Auguste and his brother Louis, scientists by profession, invented a machine called cinematograph. They made many famous films and presented them to a large audience for the first time in history.
Edison, Eastman and Muybridge were all cinematic innovators of the 19th century, alongside the French brothers. However, the birth of cinema is still considered to date to December 28, 1895 and the first public screening with the help of the cinematograph.
